Ahhh, the wedding day... After months of planning, scheduling, confirming, and double-checking, you suddenly realize that on one of the most important days of your life, in front of the friends, family, and strangers you love most, you or your partner have no idea how to dance.

Time to call in yet another wedding professional - the dance instructor.

Choose wisely, and you can get the help you need to confidently navigate the only place more fightening than the center aisle - the dance floor.

The Honor Dance Tradition

The tradition of the First Dance, or Honor Dance, can be one of the sweetest moments of a wedding...or the scariest.

First, put your mind at ease, knowing that generally the guests at your reception are on your side and want to see a couple having fun, in love, and celebrating - only in truly bizarre cases will you find judges with paddles at a wedding reception.

The Bride and Groom First Dance is often danced the only way most people know how - wrapped around each other in the "prom hang" while rocking slowly to a love song.  Don't knock it - it's a much-needed moment of togetherness on a hectic, public day.

But some couples have been the guests at enough weddings to decide that they want their first dance to be more than swaying from foot to foot.  These couples want to do a dance that will entertain themselves and their guests as well as give them some wonderful memories (and photos) to look back on later.   Plus, if you've selected a special song, you might want to include a few special dance moves to go with it.

One of the beauties of the Honor Dance is that it can be anything you want.  It's your day and your dance, and should reflect your personality.  We've created wedding dances that were formal and elegant, fun and swing-ish, Country/Western, simple and casual, and even production-style.  The goal is to create your wedding dance exactly the way you want it.

How Many Lessons Will You Need?

That depends mostly on how fancy you want the dance to be and how much time you can put into it.   As a rule of thumb, the simpler the dance, the less time it will take to learn.  The chart below will help you get an idea how many lessons you'll need, based on the desired result and the time you have available.

If you want your reception guests to respond this way to you honor dance …
Or you want to feel this way after your dance is over …
Or you have this much time before your wedding …
Then the number of lessons the average couple needs is …
